What is Shrove Tuesday?

It is also known as Fat Tuesday, or you may be more familiar with the term in French, Mardi Gras! It is the day before Ash Wednesday so traditionally the last chance to be festive (& a bit gluttonous?) before the solemnity and constraint of Lent. There are many different traditions for celebrating on Fat Tuesday, with the most excessive being in New Orleans and Rio de Janeiro. In Northern Europe, it is also known as Pancake Day, as pancakes were considered an excellent way to use up yeast and fats that were often given up for Lent. In Germany, the tradition is doughnuts. In Spain, along with fiestas and a lot of rich food, there are flour fights!

St. Andrew will be having an open house Shrove Tuesday dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 17 in the fellowship hall.

Food will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, so come whenever your schedule allows! Come for an evening of yummy food and fun fellowship, but take your flour fights outside!
