CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, whose compassion endures forever. Amen.
Let us confess our sin to God.
Silence is kept for reflection.
Compassionate God, we confess to you all our sins. Our burden
is heavy, and we cannot free ourselves. In your mercy, call us
back to you. Your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Restore
us to dwell in your peace. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying
heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” In the name of God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, your sins are forgiven. Rest in God’s love. Amen.

The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray. Glorious God, your generosity waters the world with
goodness, and you cover creation with abundance. Awaken in
us a hunger for the food that satisfies both body and spirit, and
with this food fill all the starving world; through your Son, Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

FIRST READING Isaiah 55:1-5
God invites Israel to a great feast at which both food and drink are
free. God also promises to make an everlasting covenant with all
peoples, with promises that previously had been limited to Israel. As
David was a witness to the nations, these nations shall now acknowledge
the ways in which God has glorified Israel.
1 Hear, everyone who thirsts; come to the waters; and you who have no money,come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread and your earnings for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 3 Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. 4 See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. 5 Now you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that do not know you shall run to you,because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,

SECOND READING Romans 9:1-5
This begins a new section in Paul’s letter in which he will deal with
the place of Israel in God’s saving plan. He opens by highlighting
how Israel’s heritage and legacy include being God’s children, having
God’s covenants, being given God’s law, participating in worship
of God, and receiving divine promises.
1 I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience
confirms it by the Holy Spirit—2 I have great sorrow and unceasing
anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed
and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own brothers and sisters,
my own flesh and blood. 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong
the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship,
and the promises; 5 to them belong the patriarchs, and from
them, according to the flesh, comes the Christ, who is over all, God
blessed forever. Amen.

GOSPEL Matthew 14:13-21
The holy gospel according to Matthew.
Glory to you, O Lord.
After John the Baptist is murdered, Jesus desires a time of solitude.
Still, his compassion for others will not allow him to dismiss those who
need him, and he is moved to perform one of his greatest miracles.
13 Now when Jesus heard [about the beheading of John the Baptist,]
he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself.
But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the
towns. 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had
compassion for them and cured their sick. 15 When it was evening, the
disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour
is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages
and buy food for themselves.” 16 Jesus said to them, “They need not go
away; you give them something to eat.” 17 They replied, “We have
nothing here but five loaves and two fish.” 18 And he said, “Bring them
here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass.
Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and
blessed and broke the loaves
and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the
crowds. 20 And all ate and were filled, and they took up what was left
over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And those who ate
were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Let us pray. Loving God, we offer at your table the gifts of our
hearts. Help us take heart in you and share freely of your love, so

MEAL
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and
in all places give thanks and praise. . . We praise your name and join
their unending hymn.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread,
and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, Take and eat;
this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all
to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for
you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
With this bread and cup we remember our Lord’s Passover from
death to life as we proclaim the mystery of faith;
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION
Heaven has come near. Come, share in the feast!
All are welcome to receive Holy Communion at the Lord's table. We
practice a continuous communion distribution. You are invited to
come forward at the direction of the ushers and kneel or stand at the
altar rail, filling in spaces starting from the center as they become
available. If you'd like to receive a blessing instead, you may simply
come forward and cross your arms over your chest. If you are unable
to come forward, please notify an usher and we will bring the sacrament
to you. The communion cups contain wine (red) or grape juice
(white). Gluten-free wafers are available upon request.

Family Promise
Donations Needed
The families that we are hosting have some immediate needs.
The first family has graduated and moved into their own home! They
are in need of a sofa and dresser, cleaning supplies, linens and
towels, twin and queen bed frame and mattresses, drinking glasses/
cups, and silverware .
Families 2 and 3 are in need of bottled water and size 4 diapers;
socks and toiletries for mom and daughter (age 8) and son (age 5).
If you are able to donate, please contact Beth Campbell at
830-358-6616 to arrange pick up for the large items. The small items
can be dropped of here at the church by August 9th and Beth will
deliver them.
Today is Ameya’s last day serving as our
Children & Youth Ministry Intern. We are
grateful for the love and care she has
shown to our children and youth and for
the ways she has served this congregation
with joy and faith. We wish her well in her
upcoming school year!
